Copper, auburn, ginger, strawberry blonde. Whatever you call it, traditionally persons who are blessed with red hair are often the butt of jokes.
But not today. January 12 marks the tenth annual Kiss a Ginger Day, 24 hours where we get to shower our beloved redheads with praise, love - and possibly a cheeky winch.
Scientists reckon that those carrot-top locks are teetering on the edge of extinction so make the most of it while you still can by telling the gingers in your life just how much you love them.
Here in Scotland we boast the highest percentage of natural redheads, with around 13% rocking ginger hair. Really, we're spoilt for choice.
