  • Former President George W. Bush delivered a touching eulogy to his father at Wednesday’s funeral for the late George H.W. Bush.
  • George W. called his father “the brightest of a thousand points of light”, and said he “taught us never to be defined by failure”.
  • The younger Bush was one of five presidents in attendance at the funeral, along with President Trump and former presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter, all seated in the front row.

George W. Bush said goodbye to his father, George H.W. Bush, with a moving eulogy at the former president’s memorial in Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday.

At the end of his 12-minute speech, Bush, the 43rd President, had a rare moment of public emotion, reflecting on his father’s close bond with his children, his love for his 73-year-old wife, Barbara, and his enduring sadness at the loss of his daughter, Robin, in 1954.

“The best father a son or daughter can have,” said Bush, breaking his voice. “And in our grief, let us smile knowing that Robin is hugging his father and holding his hand back.”
