- ‘Tis the season to be jolly… We’re not sure how jolly some feel when it comes to a festive satanic statue that’s been added to the Illinois Statehouse. But it’s there.
- This is the first time a display from the Chicago chapter of the Temple of Satan has been put alongside other religious groups displays.
- “Under the Constitution, the First Amendment, people have a right to express their feelings, their thoughts,” Dave Druker, spokesman for the Illinois secretary of state, told the State Journal-Register. “This recognizes that.”

Satanic statue in place at Illinois’ statehouse
A satanic group has added its own statue to a series of displays in the US state of Illinois government building to mark the holiday season.
The four-foot sculpture is placed between a Christmas tree and a menorah and depicts a snake wrapped around an extended arm holding an apple.
It’s the first display sponsored by the Chicago chapter of the Temple of Satan.
The state government said the temple had the same right as other religious groups to have a display.
“People have a right to express their feelings, their thoughts under the Constitution, the First Amendment,” said Dave Druker, Illinois Secretary of State’s spokesperson, to the State Journal Register. “This recognizes this.”
