Ethereum Has Major Potential: Billionaire Ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt

Former Google chairman and billionaire Eric Schmidt thinks ethereum could be a ‘€œpowerful platform’€ whose untapped potential is off-the-charts. ‘€œI think the most interesting stuff that’€™s going on are the beginning of execution on top of blockchain – the most obvious example being the capability of ethereum”, he said. ‘€œAnd if ethereum can manage to figure out a way to do global synchronization of that activity, that’€™s a pretty powerful platform. That’€™s a really new invention.’€

Billionaire Eric Schmidt, Google’s former president, is a budding enthusiast of Bitcoin and blockchain who says ethereum could be a “powerful platform” whose untapped potential is off-the-charts.

With economist Tyler Cowen hosted by Village Global in San Francisco, Schmidt made the remarks during a live event.

In the wide range conversation, Schmidt discussed the future of technology, the reform of corporate governance, Google’s hiring practices and internet bifurcation.

When asked whether he thought blockchain was overrated or underrated, Schmidt gave a compound answer. “In the public format, overrated. In its technical use, underrated,” he said (video below). “Today, blockchain is a great platform for bitcoin and other currencies. And it’s a great platform for private banking transactions where people don’t trust each other.”

Schmidt believes that exciting developments that could revolutionize business and society occur with ethereum.
